    It really is ridiculous sometimes.

I was just talking to my brother about this. It is impossible to find a jar of pickles without blue and yellow dyes in them. And for what? So the water can be an unnatural, chemical green color…? The upside has been finding organic pickles and seeing they are always much better tasting but not just a lack of those dyes but also the preservatives and other crap they put in them.

Jarred cherries are another horrible one. I can’t stand those cherries they put on shakes and ice cream because they are so unnaturally red and taste like lab chemicals. Yeah, a normal jarred cherry can sometimes turn a little brown, who gives a shit?

And canned sodas is another. That brightly colored green Mountain Dew is still green inside of an aluminum can that most people will never see. Of course they do it because it’s simpler to create one batch and bottle/can/etc. from it, but it’s ultimately unnecessary.

Finding specific food coloring colors without them too has been insanely difficult, organic ones are very few and far between

Have you considered making your own pickles? It’s stupid easy and you can experiment with your own flavors that aren’t commercially available.

literally 10 minutes to put the shit in a jar. then all you do is wait. this is a bad excuse.

Normal people working a 9-5 simply don’t have time to make every product themselves. Your myopic view of the world limits you.

How much time for the trip to the canning section that they’ve probably never been to, time to sanitize the jars, and time to prep the cukes? It’s spoons that a lot of people don’t have left at the end of the day.

Sorry about the downvotes from others, but I appreciated your input and I have done that when I was a kid with my dad and I will say that they were some of the best pickles we’ve ever had. But others are correct that it’s always been most easiest just being able to pick up a jar from the store than to make a batch at home.

Though, there was this one that I loved that Walmart had that I can’t find anymore and you got me thinking I should try to make them myself when I get some time. They were sweet and spicy and went good with everything I used them on.

They’re only banning specific chemicals, not all food coloring. For example:

Red Dye No. 3, officially known as erythrosine or FD&C Red No. 3, is a synthetic dye derived mainly from petroleum. In the U.S., Red 3 has been banned for decades in makeup and topical medicines after being linked to cancer.

Red No. 2 was federally banned in the 70s. The industry adapts and moves on.

That’s gonna cut into profits for the medical and pharma industries. How are those CEOs going to afford their yachts?
