We’re doing this for free with no real benefit to it. If the admins want to fire us despite that, then why tf would we cry? And pwede ba, walang pride sa pagiging mod. You can’t put that on your resume and be fast-tracked for jobs. You can’t use that to seduce people. You don’t get a pat on the back from friends or family for being one. Pinagsasabi nyo dyan na ego and power?? Hahaha.

Ayaw daw magbayad gusto libre when this was literally addressed in the very first post about the issue ever na walang problema kung need magbayad basta within reason (see the Imgur API request comparison). Heck, finding out that Relay is salvageable as long as you pay a $2 subscription was good news to me and a lot of its users. But its users still supported the protest because there’s a bigger picture.

Wala naman daw sila paki sa third-party apps so bakit sila dinadamay. It’s a stand against corporate greed. Kung umasta sila na parang Elon Musk, what’s stopping them from taking out old.reddit? Or requiring real names to be added to your profile so they can better monetize? Kailan ka pa kikilos? Kung andyan na?

I guess communities come and go talaga. And I think this is for the better. Reddit is starting to become “too mainstream” anyway. I sound like an edgelord but it is still my genuine opinion that if a community gets too saturated, the quality also gets worse.

I came from the era of forums pa. Grew up with convergenceforums, moved to symbianize, god-forbidden 4chan, and various other boards for each small community I belong to. Until social media basically killed message boards.

This is just another transition, I hope. While I don’t benefit from 3rd party reddit apps anyway, I still don’t feel good about supporting the platform of a tyrant CEO who doesn’t even value its users, the ones who keep the community running. Fuck spez.

Dude, I remember the time when Reddit is a pure Internet forum with dedicated subs and elongated posts and replies. No bullshits, no short-term videos grabbed from mainstream socmeds. Reddit is my secondary search engine until now.

Weird, 'no? Parang Stockholm syndrome, kahit in the long run it’s to their benefit if the protest succeeded.

And not to mention that the blackout’s purpose isn’t just to reverse the planned changes; it’s also to make obscure but significant things like the whole API issue be known to everyone.

If walang blackout, there wouldn’t have been concessions by the admins regarding accessibility features for the impaired or promises of fast tracking mod tools. Or at least that’s what I’ve heard.

Of course all of these promises hinge on trusting reddit to follow through. At this point, a significant amount of good will has already been lost. It’s tough to win it back, if they’re even interested to do so.

gonna miss /r/ph because i’m not joining back. Obviously, I support the protest against reddit cause they don’t make any adjustments that will benefit users since day one protest. Fediverse, even though feels underdeveloped, is in good position to start a community that don’t rely on big corporations. Ganda rin supportahan ang FOSS community, kahit di ka developer you can contribute to the growth just by using the service.

What I’m worried is if reddit is open to the public and let investors have interest on reddit then there will be more bots, more ads and they will treat redditors how they’ll treat people in youtube, twitter and etc.

        more bots, more ads

Plus, dadami ang mga astroturfers by disguising themselves as ordinary commenters.

not only by using, you can help by reporting issues/suggestion sa github or kung saan man naka host yung repo ng mga FOSS proj., me i’m just a casual app user, at nakakatuwa pag nafix yung issue mo, or na isama sa feature yung request mo, you can also donate on them.

Sabi nga sa discord, reddit is for its users. Kaya naman tingin ko ginawa naman na ng mods yung pwede nila gawin, and it is up to the users (redditors) if they want to continue supporting the platform. Congrats to all of us, we still managed to spread the awareness about ongoing issues. Plus it gave us the opportunity to try strive on other platforms. We now have our choices.

What’s the point of creating Lemmy community if most of us anticipating the re-opening of the sub? Instead we contribute and donate to the new platform, we left dust.

The point is to still have a PH community for people who have lost trust in reddit and are trying to wean off of the platform. It’s going to take a while, but we have to start somewhere, right?

well i guess at first it was only for refugees, since at that time subreddits are still bargaining, pero given sa responce ni spez at pati narin yung pekeng AMA niya, dun na tayo nagkaroon ng stance na dapat di na lang basta evacuation ang lemmy bagkus dapat ito na yung bagong tahanan.

kaso ayun tang-inang karupukan nila. pero in a way, parang okay na magsamasama na lang sila dun sa reddit. mga walang pake o nagpapaka-ignorante

I have a feeling it will remain open for 1 reason we voted a Macros in the seat. Filipinos have this mindset that its the way it is, we cannot do anything about it.

Edit: I voted for the other option to perhaps keep it closed until admin does want to re-open.

Nope. Never going back to Reddit.

I am staying here. Thank you to the /r/Philippines mods for creating this place here, but I am staying put. I may have said that I’m going to follow the community wherever it may end up being, but Lemmy changed my mind.

Moreover, I took the chance of /r/Philippines opening up to scrub and delete my comments from over there (manual scrubbing and deletion this time).
