@mike It’s no big events that people attend, but many more pay attention to. It’s no local events that you regularly need to play standard to care about it.

When tournament magic isn’t driving a decent % of player attention, and Commander replaces that, people wont care about standard.

Couple that with IRL drafts being such a bad option compared to Arena drafts and it’s hard to get IRL drafts to fire.

This is very unhealthy for stores, and it affects card availability.

@mike @GinAndJuche I think the problem is more from the demand side: there aren’t enough reasons for players to care about Standard.

@andrew it’s that none interact with convoke, building Tasigur decks is interesting because of how the activated ability interacts with delve, but nothing like that exists for convoke (or improvise, etc)

@nickhammes @andrew buyback is also dangerous, it has to remain uncompetitive or its unfun to play against.

@andrew convoke, I want a convoke legend that has an interesting interaction with the creatures used to pay it.

(There isn’t another cost reduction legend as interesting as Tasigur)

Which is plausible for other parts of Hasbro, but unlikely in WotC

@Shyfer @TerrificTadpole I suggest you are allowed to add basic lands to make the deck functional (doesn’t have to be 100 cards, aim for the best ratio of lands)

@MysticKetchup @SteveHeist standard has issues when power creep is strong, as other formats resemble it too much. Control power creep better and that isn’t such a problem.

While sort of correct, it’s at the expense of play experience, so it’s a real downgrade.

@ech I would have sworn the token had replaced a card, but apparently I’m mistaken.

@Evu this will make modern drafts even further from the skills I haven’t relearned. New packs keep changing how signals need to be read in draft. Not a big deal for people drafting lots now, but it makes my experience terrible.

I just have too many drafts under my belt in the two common run days and not enough opportunity draft with newer sets. That also means WotC is losing nearly no sales due to this, but it still makes me sad and less likely to play a draft.

@calvinball @Evu haven’t we been at 14 for a while?

(And fallen empires was 1994 with 8 card packs, and draft packs have only existed for a few years, but those are technicalities)
