Have been wanting to switch to this but have certain apps that I have to use for work and I’m too ignorant to know if regular apps will work on this OS? Can anyone inform me of whether or not some of these apps would work? They’re not any apps that would be widely known, they are specific to my job but can be found on the Play store. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
In general, the majority of apps should work on a de-googled phone (lineage, graphene, calyx, etc). That said, there are a few apps that require a feature called SafetyNet to ensure the system hasn’t been modified. Apps with this feature will not work and are generally limited to banking/financial type apps.
That’s useful information. None of these apps that I use are financial in any way. If anything they’re more like GPS apps that route me to where I need to go, etc. I’ll look more into it before I make the leap. Thank you for answering.
They don’t have to be financial - may corporate apps will not work on custom ROMs - the most popular ones being the ones by Microsoft - eg Teams, Outlook etc.
Similarly, some games may also not work, such as all the ones by Niantic (Ingress, Pokemon Go etc) and typically many online multiplayer games.
Finally, this will also affect popular streaming media services, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime etc.
There are workarounds for some of these - some with certain compromises - but there’s no guarantee that they’ll continue to work. So before you look into any workarounds (if you use the above three categories of apps), know that it’s a constant game of cat-and-mouse, so it’s not for the faint hearted.
Just my two cents I ran lineageos on my oneplus 6 for the last 3 months before getting a new phone, also running micro GApps and I was able to use my banking app and things like android auto just fine.

They require to pass PlayIntegrity not safetynet. Safetynet is an old thing.
You’re right! I haven’t kept up. Looks like SafetyNet is basically dead as of last month but will completely stop working January 2025: https://developer.android.com/privacy-and-security/safetynet/deprecation-timeline

Very good to know thanks
You can check here https://plexus.techlore.tech/ and ask on the lineageos community forums (lemmy, reddit ecc)
It’s best if you have a test device to try them on though
Cool thanks! Might have a phone I can use to try it out but I’ll ask on the options you have first. Appreciated.
