Fantastic stuff by Piastri.
Piastri 11 thousands behind Max, wow!
Yeah, but that was an agonizing watch to see Verstappen come in to snatch pole away
I agree, though I’m getting more numb to it over time. The exact scenario has happened too many times this season alone. He’s actually just too good.
Maybe in 2029 or whatever when his contract runs out and he goes to WEC we can have competition at the front again. For now we just have to accept we can’t have nice things. Unless those things are Max winning from pole. We can have plenty of that.
The new engines in 2026 will shake things up probably. Don’t despair. And remember that it’s not just the car since Perez is not even consistently second with the same car. It’s Max’ brilliant, unrelenting perfection.
Thats why I alluded to the end of Max’s contract rather than 2026; I know it’s not just the car.
I’m not particularly convinced the new engines will solve anything, either. Not unless the rules change substantially. We are in an aero formula currently, the engines don’t make a particularly huge difference.
Especially also considering Max is good enough that it won’t be enough for another team to catch up - Red Bull needs to be behind for there to be competitive fights for the win.
I have a feeling we have several years left to go of Max strolling to victory and stifling a yawn as an unexcited “well that was simply lovely” comes over the radio.
Wtf was that haas?
A dishaaster
I’m kind of getting sick of them taking a grid spot honestly. Such an unserious team.
I’m still bitter that they fired Mick when he was at their very low level. Hulk deserves better.
I hope that heads roll at haas for that disaster. There’s one thing making wrong choices in high-stakes scenarios, but they sent out their drivers too late twice within 24h. That’s just an unforced, unexplainable blunder. If I were gene haas I’d be furious: spend 100 MILLION dollars to develop a car and they don’t even manage to get it around the track once.
This is doubly bad considering that sprints are one of their most reliable places to get points considering that their tire wear doesn’t affect them too much over shorter distances.
They might as well pack up and go home now to conserve their parts since at this point there not going to achieve anything anyways.Where were the Mercs at the end there?
Edit: Oooof, they were in each other’s way.
Didn’t this also happen yesterday?
Shootout starts at 12:35.
Indefinite delay. Hopeful they still do some driving.
Woke up early in the morning for this 😭
I’m watching, but this is just a repeat of yesterday really so it’s not something I’ll be upset if I miss
I really enjoyed yesterday with the drying track. Hope we get the same today.
FIA has some explaining to do on not declaring a wet track. I’m not a Stroll fan but if it’s true that they had no choice but to put on the medium tyres then that’s pretty rough.
FFS MAX!
Piastri on a tear lately. Great lap.

Aston Martin makes me depressed right now. Why Mediums?
The FIA in their “wisdom” never declared the track wet. They didn’t want teams to have a free selection of slicks, so AM had to follow the rules.
Which is super weird for a session which was delayed due to rain. It shouldn’t really be an opinion.
Are you sure? That quali format with fixed tires was a one-off test right? Afaik those rules don’t apply now. They didn’t apply in the quali yesterday either. I think it was just a wrong call from Aston
On the broadcast they asked AM and the response was it was never declared wet. They followed up with the FIA and were told it was an intentional decision to not declare wet. I think the trial was for regular quali, and the restriction was already in place for sprint quali. Edit: https://www.motorsportweek.com/2023/04/25/formula-1-confirms-sprint-shootout-with-tyre-twist/
Ah okay thanks. I stand corrected then. Kinda silly rule
Ah, I missed the start but that makes sense. Well, actually it makes no sense, but it explains it.
THROW. STROLL. AWAY.
fucking useless seat taker
It’s not his fault. He was on medium tires when he should have been on intermediates. His team told him to just go for it since he had no opportunity to switch tires. He’s not great but this was not on him.
