    If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. The will reject democracy.

        It’s because it’s true. Republicans discovered that they lose when they put the abortion issue to a direct vote. So now it’s a game of enacting unpopular and unethical policy through means other than democracy.

            It’s not meaningless. Subverting the will of the people is a terrible thing for the country.

            The government is supposed to serve the people, and it can only do so if it represents the will of the people.

            And the will of the people is to allow abortion to remain widely legal with some basic restrictions at most.
