          I was actually surprised to learn that aspartame (is that the one in the news atm) has only just been linked to cancer. I’ve been brought up to avoid that shit and thought it was well known to be not be safe for human consumption, regardless of the exact health effects.

          Still, I’m partial to a few aspartames when I’m taking a break from the heavy metals and plastics in my tap water.

          And the risks of any one macro food group (does it counts as a macro when it’s the key ingredient in so many recipes?) should probably be weighed by other risk factors like necking six tins of full fat coke every day. Sugar is a hard drug to kick. Ideally we’d all eat fresh but it’s tough in this world.

      They are not exactly unhealthy either. The reason why the WHO does not recommend them is because they know some people will attempt controlling their weight resorting to artificial sweeteners instead of doing exercise and eating fruits and veggies like one should.
