Was wondering what this instance is going to do if/when a lot of Reddit users migrate to Lemmy instances. From what I’ve read, there’s a high chance that a lot of instances will go down due to the amount of activity and new users.

Is this instance going to restrict registrations temporarily during it, or will it leave them open and hope for the best?

I’d guess it depends on what role the operators want to play here… Is absorbing (the good parts of) that community a goal? This seems like the most impactful time to keep the doors open if so, to try and help the network reach a critical mass.

Otoh maybe this community comes first and they’re more interested in ensuring the lights stay on during the chaos.

I just came from reddit today so I definitely don’t speak for anyone here :) but that seems like the determining factor?

There’s been a little bit of mention of this below, but I also registered today as a long time reddit user. I was scrolling through instances and seeing sweet Blåhaj made me feel at home. Finding a queer affirming community is difficult on the internet and I was relieved to find a place where that’s at the forefront.

It seems that the rate of registration and the technical/moderation upkeep are the correct technical answer, but for my vote, I’d love to see it stay open for a long time.
