Oh, please. Derogative. Get a sense of humor. That meme came from the atheist community, as a revelation to Aalewis, who wasn’t even a professional quote maker but was nevertheless enlightened by his own intelligence and not by some phony God’s blessing. We can all learn from his example, and attain a sense of euphoria in this moment.

  • This is only true if you subscribe to a dualist view of humanity, that is that the body is a separate thing from the mind. But there is also a monist way to look at it, that the body and the mind are one.

The totality of a human being can’t be separated into body and mind in a practical way. What about the senses which are both a bodily and a psychological function? What about emotions that are definitely felt both in the psyche and in the body? When I am tried I can’t think well, when I am depressed it’s harder to perform a bench press than when I am not depressed.

We are not just the brain. That’s a reductive way to look at human being. The ancient philosophers knew this, after all, mens sana in corpore sano.

This isn’t the gotcha you think it is. The stance of serious Christian theologians on homosexuality is nothing like the WBC stance.

Homosexuality in the Christian theological tradition is essentially seen as a disability. Premarital sex is equally forbidden to everyone. But because of what the Bible says, homosexuals have no access the holy mystery of marriage. Therefore they must remain chaste.

As for transgender individuals, the stances of some large churches might surprise you. The Serbian Orthodox Church for instance accepts transgender individuals.

I’m not religious and these aren’t my personal views. Just saying that it’s a bit more complicated than “god hates f*gs.”
