  • Also Ephesians teaches that we were chosen by God to be holy and blameless:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.

    Ephesians 1:3‭-‬6 ESV

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:8‭, ‬10 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/eph.2.8-10.ESV

  • I’m a long time evangelical Protestant who has attended a variety of churches and I recognize what you describe as a heresy known as antinomianism. James teaches that faith without works is dead and dead faith does not save. Also, much of the book of 1 John teaches against antinomianism, e.g.

No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother. 1 John 3:9‭-‬10 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/1jn.3.9-10.ESV

Also, this from Romans 8 says much the same thing:

So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Romans 8:12‭-‬14 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/rom.8.12-14.ESV

  • No point in increasing the burden, which legalization would likely do. Moreover, nobody has a “right” to take money out of my pocket to address their problems. It is also a threat to public safety, motorists on dope can be as dangerous as drunk motorists. Also, people intoxicated on either dope or alcohol are more likely to commit crime than sober individuals. There are studies that show an increased likelihood of schizophrenia with marijuana use. People with schizophrenia are more likely to commit crimes and require either incarceration or treatment at public expense.
