Or maybe we could have a rule like “Any post that’s greater than 12hrs old and has less than 30% approval gets removed” I like this because it gives voting more power for shaping the community and it’s objective.

OP wants FOSS BeReal, it’s all there in the title. There is no rule against having a body to the post. I agree that I would be disappointed if showerthoughts was only people’s product ideas.
If this type of post became commonplace we could make a rule trying to avoid spam. How would you word the rule? “No promotion of products or product concepts” that might work. Rules have side effects so I would want to look back through old posts to see if it would hurt quality posts.
This post did get two reports. Reports are not super down votes, things need to break rules for me to pull them, I try to be objective. As always I’m open to discussion.
I did giggle about commenter below that is sometimes old. Silver linings.
You have a lot of great things to offer this conversation, I’m not sure why all the aggression was needed.
Wow, organic maps is really nice, seems like a much cleaner user interface than OsmAnd, whereas OsmAnd has more options.
Huh, works fine for me for nearly a year now. The only thing I still use google calendar for are some shared calendars.
After proton adds Standard Notes. I’m hoping google maps will be the last product I’m tied to.
I’m sure it’s not a surprise that this post was reported. From what I saw, the conversation remained focused on society and anatomy and remained far less graphic than a basic anatomy textbook. Thanks everyone.
It was also reported for not having the whole thought in the title.
Great post.
Per the community rules, try to keep the complete shower thought in the title.
If you forget the rule, its their in the sidebar ;)
This was reported for being hostile. Please keep your comments focused on the topic being discussed and do not attack the other people in the discussion.
This is an interesting perspective and could have resulted in interesting discussion. Aggression alone isn’t bad, but attacks on posters are bad.
Yeah, it’s good. If you have an idea you think fits the community, you should post it and people can vote and comment. I am excited to see how things, like formatting, evolve over time.
Reported for not being a shower thought, and spam/abuse. It’s certainly formatted differently than most, and I think the votes reflect that.
Really good distinctions about Lemmy vs Mastedon.
To counter the ‘rounding error’ argument, I would argue that Meta is making the decision to federate because it makes business sense. Either they see that Mastedon is valuable today, or they see that it might become valuable in that future. Either way they are acting now to move that value to their company.
Interesting, I didn’t think of this. I assume anyone does whatever data mining they want on Fediveres content, but maybe it won’t be worth as much because they have less identifying info about the users?
I think it would be the new Instagram Threads app. It looks like a great way for them to get a lot of free content for their new app.
I’m very interested in what thr Mastodon and Lemmy instance admins have planned. I think there are great arguments made in: https://ploum.net/2023-06-23-how-to-kill-decentralised-networks.html
I haven’t heard counter arguments that are equally well supported, but would love to hear them.
A support channel? Not sure I understand.
@forkball just got added as a mod.
The posts in this community have certainly been a bit different from r/showerthoughts. I’m reluctant to be strict about curating the content but happy accept feedback on how you would like things enforced.
Only three posts have been reported as being off topic, this post being one of them.
i didn’t ask, so I will now
Just so you know, this wont count as a vote. it either needs to start with “YES:” or “NO:”. Without that i dont know if you think u/forkball as a mod “sounds good to me” or maybe you just think holding a vote “sounds good to me”
you and me both
Oh i see you are a mod! I just subscribed! You got this!
Does anyone else think the thumbnail looks like a llama with laser eyes?
