I think it’s good that it’s disabled, since people downvote when they disagree, and it creates the same echo chamber as on reddit.
People need to be OK with others opinions and be able to read and move on without needing to punish the person for his opinion.
I don’t know, the article says you can’t get away from Google but it’s pretty easy to reduce your exposure.
Use another email provider and another search engine and you have pretty much removed most of the sensitive data they have on you.
If you enjoy Youtube, just install F-droid and then Newpipe to get a completely ad free experience on your phone as well. And it’s fast, has background playing with optional popup for video, higher resolution support etc. It’s excellent.
The interest in Lemmy is pretty insane, and as a new user, I enjoy it much more than reddit.
If you want to, sure. I haven’t used Google for many years but others seem happy to continue using them.
I think a lot of people have given up on privacy but it’s not too hard these days to get some. You just can’t get perfect privacy. Then you can’t even own a phone or have a credit card.
