Exactly this. I struggle to have much sympathy for the people who bought into this scam but I have no sympathy at all for the scammers and I hope they pay. Society doesn’t need more of these people.

A politician who is OK with his supporters physically attacking peaceful opposition is a fascist. We are seeing similar stuff in some countries in Europe. We are again getting used to stuff we hadn’t been seen in a long time.

They’re both great catalyzers for the worst humanity has to offer.

When circumstances got bad, doublespeak has been the default way of communication from the higher-ups in most of the corporate environments I could witness. They are used to people who put up with their nonsense because they have no other real choice. Fortunately, on the internet people do have a choice.
