It actually goes to publishers, so the only way devs see that extra cut is by self-publishing. So I guess for smaller indie devs it can be a good deal.

I bought a used Kobo Aura in 2014 and used it until summer 2022. Then I bought a Kobo Libra 2 and my mother got the Aura and it still works flawlessly to this day. Kobos do last a long time.

You might be onto something, I Believe Godus also launched on Android (and maybe iOS) simultaneously, so maybe they did develop the game with a mobile first approach.
