I have no idea about the damage and expected costs so I can only judge from a psychological site:

A wise woman (my psychology teacher when I was in school) once told me that when you think about if you should spend money on something that brings you happy memories, you should just do it because those happy memories are what makes you feel happy at the end of your life (and helps you when you are going through a rough time).

So while it likely is the better financial decision to get a new bike, you’ll always remember fixing your bike and keeping it going. It’s something you achieve. It makes your bike special, it’ll make the memories you make with your repaired bike special. You’re of course spending money on repairing and maintaining your bike, but at the same time that money goes into good memories.

*assuming you fix it yourself. If you just let someone else repair it that special effect won’t be there

I can agree with overpriced (you pay for the name and for the excellent service) but they certainly aren’t badly made (generally, of course there are some outliers).

Sustainable energy is heavily subsidised in Europe. Thanks to that we have 80% renewable energy production in Austria (and buy some non-renewable energy from other countries but still, we’re on a good way).

I was born with bad eyes. People back then also were born with bad eyes but couldn’t do anything about it.

Obviously you can also get bad eyes (shortsighted) when always only focusing on short distances but it’s not the only way. Most people also become far sighted when they get older (the pressure inside your eye lowers and therefore your eye becomes shorter)

The ultimate idea afaik is to build huge renewable energy power plants (for example solar energy in deserts) to generate it there, and then transport it through pipelines to wherever you need it.

Theoretically if this ideal state keeps going for long enough it’d reach a point where the economy becomes so strong that working hours can be reduced to miniscule amounts, with enough money left over to pay for people who can’t work (due to mentally or physically not being capable of anything that a machine can’t already do).

This can obviously not happen when increased productivity is only used to increase profits.

Why even increase profits when the company already was doing fine before? Oh right, because all other companies do that too and you have to stay competitive. And they have to stay competitive with companies from other countries too, so as long as there’s not peace between all countries there also can’t be economical peace, ending the hunt for higher profits and leading humanity to a bright future.

We all know that this will never happen.

By this I mean that they either make a new one or work at an existing one. When no existing one needs workers ideally new ones should be made.

And I didn’t use ideally for no reason. I am well aware that this currently does not work well, I was talking about the concept.

I love that since people can’t just use memorized openings (I don’t know any openings, just playing the way I like - for me chess isn’t about memorizing patterns but rather about analysing the board to find the best move. I play chess because I want to think, not because I want to train openings)

Ideally the workers that aren’t needed anymore due to automation make / work at a new company, causing the economy to grow.
