Edit: to be extra clear, the sentiment of over paying for sports is fine, but for anyone who graduated for a state school like me, you’re taking pot shots at my degree. And so while I agree with the sentiment, heartily fuck you if you didn’t put in your 11 years post under and post graduate at an ivy league university where this isn’t true.

No one is taking pot shots at your degree, lol. I don’t see how that is even a thing in your head. We’re saying, pay the players and put some of that money back into the university. When the head coach makes 4 million per year, something is not right.

True, but it’s in the minority for the donations:

Is that 1% or 10%? “Many” is a very vague term for financials. Plus, those were the ones polled.

At many universities I polled, the university and athletic department split licensing revenue 50/50.

Not to be a stickler, but having some universities do a little isn’t much.

Plus the tv contacts for the so called revenue sports would make an oil tycoon blush. The presidents of these schools continue to invest in these programs because they continually prove to be an excellent roi.

From my understanding, all that money goes back to the sport’s team, not the university. It’s a side hussle. If the money went back to the university, it would at least make sense.

I actually think having the sports teams is fine if they pay their players and half of the money goes back to the University students. At UW in Seattle, I think they started letting the players receive money from sponsors, but not directly get paid. Also, it’s its own organization and not tied to the school, so all money made goes back to the coaches, the equipment and who tf knows what else. It’s a scam.

So you spent 10 years on a personal song about your family dying around you, it’s very personal, heartfelt and could be extremely successful because it’s said in a way that people won’t at first understand. You play it for your friends and they absolutely love it and encourage you to put it out. You don’t want to because it hurts too much. So you think everyone else has the "right"s to that song because it’s hoarding if you don’t release it? Come on, you don’t own my thoughts and creations, it’s selfish, greedy and a little narcissistic.

All the examples you have brought forward apply to private individuals. This is about cooperations and companies. Those very different legal entities.

That is not what some people here are saying, they want everything put out for copyright to be public domain. What’s hilarious is, that’s exactly what the AI hoovers want, they want everything anyone else makes. Especially the unique and creative artists. So these people in this thread want the same thing as these huge corporations everyone here hates.

Says someone that has never made anything. Do you think art, music, etc. comes magically out of nowhere? I don’t really care to fight about what the original intent of copyright is, artists and every person should own their own bodies, likeness, voices and creative outputs.

So? If you spent years making a movie, don’t you think you should keep the rights for the movie for awhile? I have many friends that have careers with their style of art.

I’m not against piracy in general, you should absolutely go after the evil corporations. I’m saying that for the small time artist, they need protections.

BUT, all of the media (all. of. it) hasn’t said a peep about trump’s performance and has completely sidestepped his felony conviction and all of the other gaffes he does to let Biden’s bad performance take over the headlines. They also focus on “Biden should step down” and all that other shit. I don’t see another candidate taking his place, it’s the r’s that want that at this point because they know they’ll have a hard time winning against Biden. Biden has great people working for him and isn’t playing golf 90% of the time. We can survive him being at 80%, I’m not sure we can survive another trump.

It’s extremely hard to just move to another phone or internet company. You have to threaten, lie, waste 10 hours, etc. Internet and phone companies have turned us all into “let me speak to your manager” types, we didn’t start out that way.

Except for that, yeah. We still have listeria outbreaks, etc. that kill people. It’s not like we’ve moved on from that, and that’s with all of the poisoned food to make it “safer.”
