I’m currently on The Liar’s Key by Mark Lawrence (book 2 of The Red Queen’s War). I’m really enjoying it though it’s not my favorite trilogy by him.

I finished The Heaven And Earth Grocery Store by James McBride. I was worried it wouldn’t stick the landing and it didn’t. A lot of the promises it set up in part 1 seemed to be forgotten. Almost like the author was working on two completely different books and decided to lump them together without editing them to match.

Now I’m about to start Knife of Dreams by Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time book 11) and I’m super excited. He set so much up in the next book and I’m hoping the payoff is good.

Finished Crossroads of Twilight by Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time book 10). It was enjoyable. Not much happened, but a lot was set up and it sounds like the next book will deliver.

Before I continue with that series, I’m reading The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride. I’m about a third of the way through and so far it’s good. It’s the kind of story that follows it’s characters across many years, which I generally like, but something makes me worried it might not stick the landing and I can’t quite put my finger on it.

This was my favorite of his standalone novels. I found the way he explored the POV jumping to be so effective. I hope you enjoy!

Interesting! I heard some people say Crossroads was the worst of them. I’m close to halfway through this book and so far nothing has really happened. I will say though that the slog in general isn’t as bad as I was warned.

Finished Winter’s Heart by Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time book 9) and started Crossroads of Twilight (book 10). Book 9 was slow at first but really picked up in the second half. So far book 10 is starting slow too, but knowing this is the last “slog” book is helping me stay motivated.

I finished Prince of Fools by Mark Lawrence (The Red Queen’s War). Not sure what it is but this one didn’t click with me as well as other Mark Lawrence books I’ve read. I will continue the series though.

I just started A Fever in the Heartland by Timothy Egan. It’s about the KKK in the 1920s. So far it’s both interesting and infuriating. I think I will learn a lot from this book.

I finished The Path of Daggers by Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time book 8). Not a bad book, but definitely slow and uneventful compared to previous entries.

While I wait for the next book to become available, I’ve picked up Prince of Fools by Mark Lawrence (Red Queen’s War book 1). This will be my fourth trilogy by him and I’ve loved them all so far.

Just started The Wheel of Time book 6, Lord of Chaos. Still enjoying this series but do wish Robert Jordan was less wordy sometimes. The prologue alone in this book was 50 pages.

Finished The Fires of Heaven (Wheel of Time book 5). Put a hold on book 6 but haven’t gotten it yet.

Meanwhile I’ve been reading The Facemaker by Lindsey Fitzharris. It’s a non-fiction about the use and advances of plastic surgery in World War 1 to reconstruct soldiers’ faces. It does not hold back in describing how brutal these injuries were, making it a tough read.

I like it a lot! The books are long (sometimes maybe longer than necessary), but the author is consistently managing to capture and hold my attention. Some things are predictable but there have also been twists that I didn’t see coming. I can’t wait to see how the characters will continue to grow and how the story will unravel.

I’ve been reading Wheel of Time book 5, The Fires of Heaven. Should finish this week but the next book is checked out at the library, so not sure what I’ll read while I wait for it to become available.

That’s interesting about the creative control. I did notice the books getting better but didn’t know about the impact of publisher interference. Do you have any more info on what sort of things the publisher was pushing for? I’m scared to search for it because of the abundance of spoilers (I’m only on book 5).

I’m on book 5 right now and it’s quite the ride. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have been.

How do you like books 2 and 3? I really liked book 1, but was nervous that the other books wouldn’t be able to compare/maintain the same tone so I haven’t picked them up yet.

Currently on The Shadow Rising (Wheel of Time book 4). Been reading it at an insane (for me) pace to hopefully finish this week. This book had a slow start but for the last few hundred pages, I’ve been absolutely hooked. Can’t wait to see where this series goes and how the characters continue to grow.

I’m still on Wheel of Time book 3 (The Dragon Reborn). I’ll probably finish it this week and move on to… book 4 lol. Trying to keep my momentum up as long as I can. Helps that I’ve been really enjoying the story so far.

I read through Earthsea last year and I just went in the order they were published in. I would caution that books 1 and 2 feel very different so if you aren’t big on the first one, give the second one a shot before you call it quits.

Just finished Wheel of Time book 2 (The Great Hunt) and about to start book 3 (The Dragon Reborn). I absolutely devoured book 2 so I’m super eager to continue.

Yeah I was originally going to leave it for later but the next book wasn’t available at the library and someone told me I should have started at the prequel so I went for it. I’m almost done with it and I have to say it’s been a really enjoyable read! Hopefully I don’t regret it later on
