  • This is not the left cannibalizing itself. This is the democrat leadership taking advantage of a candidate who will end democracy and instead propping up progressively worse candidates election after election. Instead of going with a candidate that is even moderately popular with the left of the party, the democrats put in a candidate who is best known for compromising with the right.

It’s, frankly, the result of the wealth of the democrat party stomping down anyone that would potentially raise their tax burden.

  • The two major issues he’s highlighting is the border and gaza. I can’t for the life of me understand why THOSE are the issues his campaign has settled on. Well, I guess I understand israel because of the money groups like APAC bring in… but still it’s become really toxic among the base (even with most republicans at this point). And the border… like the fuck… we lambasted Trump for kids in cages and biden has decided that we should continue that policy and double down on it?

The only way he’s winning a second term is if somehow Trump voters have lost their motivation and devotion to him. Otherwise this election is really not looking good.

There are so many popular issues that also make trump look terrible that biden could run on. Abortion, climate change, hating nazis, raising the minimum wage, expanding workers rights, LGBT rights, the actions of the FTC to reign in big business. He’s got so many talking points to really be effective against trump and he’s instead doing Hillary’s campaign strategy of “Well yeah, look at that guy?”.

  • It does not work like that.

The problem with such statements is the energy costs are nowhere near fixed. The amount of energy needed to play a song on my iPod shuffle through a wired headset is wildly different from the power needed to play that same song on my TV through my home theater equipment.

The same is true on the backend. The amount of power Google spends serving up a wildly popular band is way less than what they burn serving up an unknown Indy band’s video. That’s because the popular band’s music will have been pre-optimized by Google to save on bandwidth and computing resources. When something is popular, it’s in their best interests to reduce the computational costs (ie power consumption) associated with serving that content.

  • Nope.

A pardon stops all punishment from the judicial system. You don’t have to plead guilty and criminal proceedings stop. A pardon further undoes any legal handicap (for example, you can own firearms again).

That said, if you accept a pardon you can’t plead the fifth when it comes to details related to the crime you’ve committed.

There’s also a commutation, which is weaker than a pardon. Instead of having the crime fully forgiven you are simply let out of jail with the understanding you committed the crime and must face follow up consequences (like not being able to own firearms).

Finally, there are also conditional pardons. Those are ones where the president could impose a “you must plead guilty” style rule before the pardon can be applied. He could also apply a rule that says “you must perform 10 jumping jacks”.

Pardon powers are some of the most broad we have in the US.

About the only limitation is you can’t pardon for future crimes.

Where does your power come from?

Right now? Primarily hydro with a strong solar and wind showing. Roughly 10% of my power is from Fossil fuels.

You are just shifting the shit elsewhere

Even with a pure fossil fuel grid, EVs still end up producing less CO2 than ICE vehicles. However, grids aren’t pure fossil fuels which means EVs are far cleaner than Fossil fuel vehicles. Especially in my current circumstance.

Less than 8% of energy consumption in the US comes from renewable energy. Another 8% come from nuclear.

13% while being one of the fastest growing energy production sectors.

    https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/us-energy-facts/

That’s petrol / natural gas / coal powering your home, factories, shops, and restaurant

Not mine because I live in the Pacific North West which is the greenest grid in the US.

  • It’s about stopping centralized programs which would actually address public needs. “We don’t need universal healthcare, here’s a charity that helps people with the bubonic plague!”

And in the worst cases, it’s a grift for the wealthy. Where the charities exist to do scammy things like pay the founder to fly to luxury resorts to give a talk about why poverty is bad. Or to fund your family members solar manufacturing company. Or to put fuel into your church’s private jet so you don’t run the risk of catching demons from the public.
