If I worked there, I’d be tempted to write a program that would scan and replace some characters with Unicode/international similar characters. So for example, instead of “DEI” it would become “DẸI”.

Right now I’m still setting it up for work, so the tooling I’m replacing is dev-related (Remmina instead of mRemoteNG, NetPad instead of LinqPad, etc.).
Also grabbed InputLeap to share the same keyboard/mouse between old and new PC while I do this, and set up a local SSH server on the new so I could just SCP files directly to it over local network instead of popping USBs…
Been a lot of work but disturbingly fun.
I’ve been running Mint about a week now, same story and similar hardware. I came from substantially older hardware than you did.
As I understand it, Mint started using a much better kernel with version 22, so hardware support so far has been perfect.
Also having a great experience so far. Biggest challenge has been finding replacements for done utilities but I’ve had good luck there too so far.
Tech has always preferred H1B workers, since they can’t simply leave the job they were hired for and are effectively in indentured servitude.
This game gave me horrible motion sickness. Something about how the camera moved and FoV. They didn’t seem interested in addressing it, though I saw quite a few similar complaints. I had been looking forward to it but had to just give up and get a refund.
It’s because oil is a global market and exports are more profitable than keeping it here for some types of oil.
(Side note for those that don’t know: the President has the authority to instantly ban all oil exports at any time)
Which is especially galling since the U.S. is the largest oil exporter.
I wish we’d get cheap eggs and gas. But they’ll probably skyrocket like everything else.

I’ll probably be watching Breaking Points on Youtube. The hosts aren’t unbiased, but they don’t pretend to not be and provide a good balance overall.
Look up prices for housing, food, etc. in your area and compare that to full time at minimum wage. Then consider a lot of companies only hire part-time and not full time. Then consider minimum wage is still the federal $7.25 in a lot of the country. See how that math looks.
It’s not remotely crazy, and I have lived there. I had times where I foraged for berries and plants for food, and was lucky enough to know how and where to do so. That was a long time ago, before wages stagnated and inflation went bananas. I’m surprised more people aren’t starving to death today, just looking at the numbers.
They may be in a comfy bubble but that doesn’t necessarily mean that haven’t worked hard and/or been lucky. Kind of a harsh assumption about a stranger.
