  • Arizona is one of roughly 20 states where judges must face the voters to keep their jobs.

Under the system, voters must decide to retain or reject judges two years after their appointments, and every six years after that. Of 1,500 judges who have gone through the process since the mid-1970s, only six have lost — and three of those losses occurred in 2022.

No Supreme Court justice has lost, but Justice Montgomery came close, in 2022, garnering 55 percent of the vote. Republican legislators, who control the statehouse, are now considering a proposal to make it more difficult to remove Supreme Court justices except in extraordinary circumstances.

The two members of the court who face retention elections this year are Justice Bolick and Justice King.

Given the likelihood that Arizona voters will already be weighing a ballot initiative to enshrine the right to an abortion in the Constitution, those judicial races may well attract more attention than usual, said Paul Weich, a lawyer who writes the newsletter Arizona’s Law. “I would anticipate that the abortion access initiative coalition is going to be urging people to not only vote for the initiative but to vote for no on retention for those two justices.”

    Damn skippy I plan to.

  • Thankfully never, not sure how I would have recovered from that one! Did catch it pretending it was on fire a few times. It was alerting the local FD our alarms were triggered when on site, it was quiet an no burning was going on. They called a couple different times about it and even showed up once… in case I was lying? Bet safe than sorry I guess.

  • Right?! All these people who think that there are just well paying jobs, that cover your expenses plus some, are just sitting there while we ignore them and choose to be poor.

I’m in my 40’s going back to school again trying to do better. I’ve changed jobs roughly every 4-6yrs to get better pay and hours. I got stupid lucky to find 2 people to buy a house with right before the market went to shit. I’m making better money than ever in my life but still living the same. Gas, taxes, food kept a steady rise, along with the school loans I never made the promised income for (from the schools recruiters, career aids, etc) thus am still repaying.

Poor people aren’t lazy. We’re just poor.

Imma bet most of us are the kind of people that would never take advantage of someone else for our personal gain. Most old acquaintances I’ve met back up with who are doing much better off, I can’t say that I would do what they did for it. I’ve been called things and scoffed at when I’ve said I have personal morals, and told how it interferes with making real money. Absolutely not saying anyone making good money isn’t moral. It does narrow down the scope of opportunities though.

  • And if I just whip a gun out and shoot everyone who espouses this shit, it won’t take very long for me to be shot or jailed myself. And, now it is proof to them that the other side IS out to get them and their fairy in the sky. Changes nothing for the better in the political hellscape but, does ruin my families lives. I do not want violence to be the answer. But, if it has to be, unless there is a tight movement against these holy dingbats, it’s just a useless sacrifice to jump and go ballistic on them. As much shit as I’ve seen on here with extreme left saying the only answer is violence back, I have not seen anyone working towards that in the real world. What, everyone is waiting for someone else to get started? Or, we really are not has homicidal as they are and prefer to logically come to a conclusion?
