Ethernet is obviously better but running ethernet around your home can be a pain in the arse

I miss Maplin, I still use stuff I bought from there
I’m not sure if he’s claiming that Brexit is the reason for EU troubles, but I dunno because I haven’t listened to the full interview (which is here, but I think you need to be in the UK to listen to it)
Maybe he’s referring to the political troubles in Germany and France - the governments of both countries have collapsed recently
Great post. Happy Holidays You Bastard by blink-182 is a classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KYOAw47O-I
I’m not saying you do. I don’t use Twitter anymore. What I was trying to say is that I find the state of the world worrying.
I looked a Bluesky but I noticed a lot of MAGA people trolling in the comments. Maybe they can be hidden with account settings probably but I haven’t looked into that.
Sure. Maybe it’s worrying though that social media is splitting on ideological lines. This didn’t really used to be the case. Twitter was intended for everybody, so was Facebook, etc.
Maybe the divisions in western societies are becoming sharper and more bitter. That’s probably not a good thing.
Can’t I get a return trip? It’s going to be annoying to get a train or plane to take me home.
Someone could create an instance if they wanted right? The code is on GitHub
Maybe there’s more to it though, I dunno.
People thought the first Trump presidency was a politically divided time, but maybe we’re now entering an even more divided time, given that social media is now fragmenting along political lines, more prominently than it did before.
Someone said to me once “if you really wanted to do X, you would have done it”.
Your post reminded me of that, because many people might really want to be rich, but they don’t become rich because it’s a difficult thing to achieve. So maybe wanting something isn’t enough. Maybe you need luck or other advantages on your side too.
I don’t think age makes people conservative, I think power makes people conservative. If you accumulate wealth and power then you may become conservative in order to protect your wealth from taxes.
Just as others in this thread have said, it’s the “fuck you, I got mine” attitude.
I suppose that BBC report could be wrong, but I think the BBC are usually pretty accurate, so it could well be an accurate report. It looks like the US, UK, and Australian governments believed that the report was accurate.
And there’s the soldered RAM and storage, and glued-in or screwed-in battery…
I’ve never banned anybody for saying their view, and I don’t think I’d support someone being banned for saying their view, as long as they’re being respectful, and as long as they’re not advocating anything criminal.
Personally I would like to be able to talk to people with different views, in a civil manner. But Lemmy.ml doesn’t seem to want that. If you post something that they don’t like (even if it’s a very moderate view and is expressed in a completely civil way) then they ban you. They seem to really hate moderate people.
Brexit may have made life more difficult for many British people, but hey, at least the passports are blue now.
(In case you don’t know, British passports were dark red when we were in the EU - in keeping with other EU passports - and when Britain left the EU, the government decided to make passports blue like they were in the olden days, because they thought this would appeal to boomers)
