There was a podcast I listened to a while back that indicated the opposite, the idea was that the better off people are, the less likely they are to have kids. One of the explanations I remember was that the better off people are, kids are just another competing thing that they can do. For example, if you are well off and can go travel for a long period of time, you might be more inclined to do that vs deciding to have kids. Another stat was that birthrates were higher for lower income people.

In Germany it’s typical to do so just to make the change easier, you might catch an angry glance by making them make small change.

Do you think it’s a waste of resources to even give him a trial? Death penalty trials are long and expensive and often cost more than lifelong incarceration. You might be okay with a low bar for having the government remove someone from society but I think the bar should be high, and the decision shouldn’t be done lightly. However, keeping that bar high also takes more resources so the issue isn’t as easy as you make it out to be.

This is the problem. These services have successfully pitted you against the customer. If you are not happy with the pay, your issue is with the employer, not the customer.

These services do pay drivers and it’s not enough. Instead of paying more, they redirect you to the customer for the rest, and in some cases you just get screwed. But it’s the service screwing you, not the customer.

Just have it repaired for a fraction of the cost. I had a stick replaced for like 10 bucks.

Competition can help lower prices with things like collective bargaining. It’s the reason that Canada pays less for drugs, because they can negotiate prices on behalf of the whole country. However, the US has more competition and several private insurance companies, each are only able to negotiate on behalf of their relatively small groups and thus are not able to negotiate as good of prices.

Many countries outside of the US provide better access to healthcare for less and I’m not convinced it is because those systems have better competition in the ways you are suggesting, but I’d be happy to learn more.

Maybe the issue isn’t private medicine. Like you said, both have private medicine but Germany doesn’t have the same issues as the US. One difference is public insurance. I know there is Medicare, but that’s only for older folks.
