Don’t get me wrong, I use Beets for my entire library, but it doesn’t solve any of the issue OP has. It does not get metadata from streaming sites or anywhere else, but same as Picard from Musibrainz. It does not allow to manually change metadata of music you are importing. On the contrary, for that Picard is the better tool as it allows that.

There are not many advantages of using Beets over Picard, apart from CLI, and especially for the OP use case.

Beets is great but it also uses musicbrainz so won’t really help OP.

This is a really deep rabbit hole you can get into. But basically, today you cannot have privacy. Steps you can do to increase it are things like:

• Use open source OS (Linux)
• Use open source OS on your mobile (I would recommend LineageOS)
• Only use FOSS if you can
• Don’t use Google/Bing/etc. you don’t really have a good option here, as there is no open source solution. Basically, you can try to trust things like duckduckgo/brave search, but personally I use searxng.
• Don’t think that because you use VPN you are safe, most of the VPNs are dubious at best, if you really want privacy something like Tor is probably your best bet.

But most importantly, even if you do everything perfectly, don’t think anything you do is private. It is only a matter of making things more difficult. Your best bet for privacy is just not doing anything online that would be worth the effort to spy on you.

I recently switched to nixos which makes dependency management and configuration itself much easier. Probably the best option to run things on bare metal IMO.

Sounds like Windows rewrote boot manager. It likes to do that sometimes. Basically your only choice is taking live USB booting into it and reinstalling grub.

You are not replying to anything I said. It is not important if and why systemd is used (but if you want, we can argue about that too). Your point was that Gentoo was sold out, and it doesn’t provide any other option. You still didn’t demonstrate that, Gentoo’s main selling point is choice, and it most certainly allows you to choose your init system with first class support for both systemd and openrc (and worse support for other init systems). You didn’t demonstrate that they sold out, or is just the option of actually being able to use systemd selling out in your books?

What are you even talking about? I guess by recipes you mean ebuilds. Only 260 ebuilds use systemd or elogind USE flags. If you look at those, most of those are just providing some systemd special behaviour (loggind straight to journald session tracking, etc.). There are just a few packages that won’t work without systemd, but that is not due to some weird conspiracy theory of yours, but just due to almost everyone, especially in professional spaces, using systemd, but those packages are very rare.

If you look at gentoo wiki almost always you will find that openrc is treated at least with same level of detail, often more. If you look at every poll etc. of gentoo users, you will always find that more people use openrc than systemd. You should probably stop accusing everyone else of being malicious and try to actually look into things first.

Also, Gentoo is basically the only “major” distro that actually lets you now use systemd at all, actually most Gentoo users don’t use systemd, so I really have no idea what you are talking about.

In my experience, Gentoo is in many ways easier than Arch. Portage is a much better package manager, and getting something to break (even if using unstable) is really hard. In my experience, whilst Arch is also an excellent distro it is much easier to mess something up, or for pacman to mess something.

Also, I would expand the part about different DEs or at least give some examples in the customization section. Considering that Mint doesn’t come with KDE/GNOME which are most common DEs they should be at least mentioned.

Compared to Mint, Debian is harder to use, Mint is probably one of the easiest distros to use. What did you have an issue with?

Which Debian distro will be recommended? I would make sure it is something with newer packages, otherwise people can run into issues with hardware compatibility among other things. Will things like gaming be mentioned, it is till among the most common reasons people refuse to use Linux.
