I would like if you just purge those communities or let users block them. The same way we are technically federated with lemmygrad but if you go to the “All” tab you won’t see many posts from them.

As you’ve said a community with 10 members would do much less damage than a community with 7k members, we are an instance with less than 20 active users. We aren’t doing too much damage and the “damage” we are doing could be mitigated pretty easy without defederation.

Yes, a lot of people use computers. I also prefer to use my phone when I’m browsing social media but I prefer the webapps when they are done well like lemmy’s one is. When the dedicated app is better I will use it of course. Dedicated video player is much much better than the browser video player for example.

I am a strange guy. I do things my way. And my way is pretty strange way.

I am like a search engine. I have remembered a lot of URLs. Mainly I browse EH. Whenever I want video content I use NewPipe SB, BraveNewPipe, Invidious and odysee. NewPipe SB and invidious have feed with tech stuff I watch. The first one is with channels I have chosen to subscribe to and the other one is for channels the invidious instance admin has chosen. BraveNewPipe is for content dedicated to IRL - making money, fitness, motivation, politics, etc. Odysee I use whenever the other 3 have been exhausted and I have watched all the videos I want for the day.

I also have subscribed to several rss feeds. Mainly for tech, again and updates for software I use. There is also one news outlet on there which TBH fills the whole feed.

The 3rd thing I use is Telegram. On there I look at political stuff and Andrew Tate.

I also use Instagram but only to see what the stories and PMs of my friends. I don’t like giving big tech my data.

I suggest we do a crowd funding to upgrade the server plan which in my opinion would solve the issue at least for a bit.

Bigger screen and desktop mode in the browser if you are on a phone.

Storage isn’t unlimited for those services. They also pay for bandwidth which is probably several terabytes. $1200/month might be overestimation but it is at least $7-800/month

Another thing that might help. Go do something with teams. The first things that comes to mind are paintball and airsoft but I am a man and you might not like those two.

Try also playing some online team game. Don’t be shy. Just control yourself. Anything more than 2h can make you feel worse. Especially if you aren’t on the winning side.
