  • I have a gut feeling that his talk of tariffs is a bluff. Even if it’s not my gut still tells me there’s going to be exceptions for certain things that are big money makers for Trump and his allies. Trump’s administration is not going to tax themselves unless they can provide a loophole to get themselves out of it. Ultimately it’s the consumer who pays for tariffs, but they’re entire purpose is to slow down trade and if that costs Trump and his allies too much of their wealth it won’t happen.

    Trump is as predictable as he is unpredictable because he doesn’t stay consistent. He changes what he says and does to be perceived as best he can in that moment. Which makes understanding his actions a little easier, his past actions are irrelevant to his future decisions, it’s just about what’s in his head in the moment. Which is just a lot of words to say that Trump, his administration, and his allies are just chaos, and you never really know what chaos will bring except a change in the status quo. It’s not looking optimistic though.

    Biology isn’t that simple. A person can have one fewer sex chromosome, monosomy, one extra, trisomy, and many extra, polysomy. In fact it’s starting to show that a significant minority of people have trisomy 47 (the name for having one extra sex chromosome) but live perfectly normal lives because those extra genes are suppressed. You could have an extra x chromosome and never know it, does that exclude you from being a man or a woman? Which brings up the topic of gene expression and epigenetics which is even more complicated. If you’re looking at science to give you a certainty about sex and gender you’re in for a long search.

  • For what it’s worth, I don’t think anyone who is trying to discuss the election with you in good faith paints you as just another MAGA American. We know some Americans faught tooth and nail to stop this. Now you could be lying just as easily as you could be telling the truth, although I have no reason to think you are lying. So assuming you’re telling the truth, as crushing as a second Trump presidency is for me, someone who doesn’t live in the US, who literally can’t do anything about him, it must be so much more worse for you.

    I know you’re tired but your fight against fascism is just beginning, it’s far from over. I hope you can find the strength to keep going. As an outsider all I can do is tell you that some of us see you and know that you’re not well right now. Gandalf put it best;

    “I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

    Didn’t you know, criticism of the Israeli government is tantamount to advocating for a genocide of Jewish people. It’s binary, no way anyone can have an opinion that exists between a spectrum of the two. I mean someone criticizing a government and not it’s people is just absurd.

    (/S, incase anyone doubts my sarcasm)

  • Generally yes, for a reasonably healthy person and a typical flu for example, that’s all anyone would need. The exception is if there’s any complications because of the infection and that’s just playing the odds. In those cases there are anti-viral drugs and other treatments but they usually come with a long list of side effects. It’s usually best to let the body fight the infection itself and just support it. That said, every year tons of healthy people are disabled or die because of very common illnesses so it’s not so black and white. Generally speaking, you are correct, but don’t let that stop you from seeking care if you think you need it.

    The only reason I can actually understand an undecided voter is if it’s actually a strategic decision to entice the parties to give them more. An undecided voter is worth so much that Elon is literally giving away millions of dollars to sway them. Yeah it’s chump change to him but it’s still unprecedented. It would be kind of like a nullifying jurur, in that they’re saying something completely different than what they’re thinking. That totally gives undecided voters way more credit than they’re actually due, because in reality they’re just ignorant of the situation.

  • If you wanted to take a second crack at it, it is easier than ever to learn how to use Linux. The one thing I have found ChatGPT useful for is guiding me through setting up a new program or daemon or to explain to me what that super cryptic error message means. ChatGPT is not perfect and requires whoever is using it to sanity check the result it gives, but more often than not I find I walk away with a better understanding of what I was doing.

  • Just a bit of history, in WWII the Allies didn’t know for certain that the Holocaust had occurred. Remember that it was the 1940s, information could travel quickly but only so much. It wasn’t as easy for them back then to pickup the metaphorical ‘signal’ of the Holocaust happening to the ‘noise’ the rest of the war was making. So while there were rumors of mass executions of Jewish people as early as the summer of 1941, it’s often said that the Allies didn’t know about the Holocaust until winter 1945. Now when the Allies went from ignorant, to suspicious, to all but certain but with doubts and finally to certain without a doubt has been debated for decades and will probably be debated until the sun expands and swallows the earth whole. There was definitely a lot of hateful rhetoric being spouted about Jewish people in the 1930s that maybe should have been stopped before it nearly took over Europe, but looking back at history we have the advantage of hindsight.
