  • That’s a great observation about you hanging out around tractors as a kid and having that sense of awe. I had a similar thing as a kid with my grandpa working on semis and old cars. I really hope they do pull the game off despite my brain telling me this is all a house of cards. But exploring ships and space is so damn fun, this is the closest game to that. Tried all the X games and Elite and everything in between and SC, broke as it is, still has me holding out hope. At the very least if they never make it to a full release I hope someone else tries something similar. Starfield is fun but not scratching the same itch.

  • I do the same thing and have tons of issues with how they’re making the game. That being said it’s far from vaporware. The experience is pretty jank at the moment but 2 years ago when I played a lot it was stable and you could sink a lot of hours into an actual gameplay experience, which is far from vaporware from my understanding. Theoretically you still can but I’m waiting to play until it’s more stable. It’s still alpha yeah but when it works it’s an actual game, albeit far from expectations and promises.

People should absolutely criticize the development but calling it fraud seems a stretch, they clearly have a product it’s just like 6 years away probably from being what they talked about 6 years ago lol. It seems more like mismanagement and development bloat. The insane backers notwithstanding. Even if they dump development now I had some fun times with $45 spent. It’s certainly an interesting experience to behold, I just think the hyperbole around the game can be ridiculous. My two cents.

  • Try turning off cloud saves for specifically BG3. Each time you quick save the file is about 10 to 20 MB, so default game settings give you 25 quick saves and 25 auto saves, plus any manual saves you did. If you play long enough in a single session you could be having 1GB of save files steam tries uploading after you close the game. If you have slow upload it could take awhile and I’ve seen people close steam too quickly or crash and it screws up the in progress uploads. Turning off cloud saves will stop that. Just backup your saves elsewhere just in case.

  • Who you have actively selected and control will determine what stats are used during conversations/cutscenes, IE if you need to do a charisma or intimidation or insight check it uses that character’s stats. However certain cutscenes will use your main character (the one you selected when you started the game) no matter what.

Also passive checks throughout the world will use all characters but they need to be near the spot to use them so sometimes if your character you’re controlling walks past a hidden cache somewhere and fails a perception check you can move your other characters into that spot and they’ll all try. You can even go to camp and grab someone else for more chances if you really have some blind characters in your party.

  • Tl;Dr a lot of changes they’re working on halted a lot of progress leaps you’d usually see each year and people are wondering what’s going on, and also a funding milestone got hit again (600 mil) which always riles up journalists and subsequently every person in the world. Also Starfield is driving a lot of discourse currently as it comes out in a week and there’s crossover of fans.

But once those big changes come online the game will be in a far better place.

Their big push appears to be SQ42 and persistence which comes in a lot of stages (persistent entity streaming was first, but eventually server meshing). Idk much about SQ42 aside from it is essentially being explained to us that features there (star map/map, zero g revamp, flight modes) will be tested then put in the PU so it’s important to get it done asap (besides getting it done because it’s been cooking for so long). Naturally a lot of stuff needs to be done for persistence and meshing. It took them a long time to unfuck the servers after PES was implemented, so I imagine full persistence is going to continue the trend of slow releases and many testing cycles and many new bugs.

  • When you frame it a certain way of course it sounds awful. Let me try the opposite.

Lae’zel has been indoctrinated since birth by a crazy religious and xenophobic culture. The second she’s told she’s being lied to she doesn’t believe anyone because people don’t change their mind about their entire belief system through one line of dialogue from a person she just met.

However after a few more hard facts being shown to her, such as said religious culture trying to kill her and being lied to by the head of said fanatics, she realizes all of her people are actually indoctrinated slaves and starts to fight for the future of her people by rallying around the one person who can actually do something to stop it all.

Not sure why her breaking away from the brainwashing and indoctrination and trying to help free her people after seeing the truth is a bad thing here? Also fun fact, if Orpheus turns into a mind flayer and dies at the end she goes to free her people anyway, it wasn’t just about him. She didn’t just become a zealot following a new person, she became dedicated to freeing her people. Orpheus has that capability so she wants to free him.
