I appreciate what you are doing over here. I am truly enjoying the show as all these ex-redditors who I believed must have some capacity for independent thought and respect for freedom of speech to finally leave that platform show their true colors.
On one hand, it IS hilarious. On the other, it’s sad as fuck because it’s completely broken any excitement I had for lemmy as a large scale platform. It turns out, it was the users and mods who were the problem on reddit all along.
They’ve brought their baggage with them. All the disgusting pedo psyops they’ve swallowed and absorbed, all of their self-assurance that they are right and good, and anyone who disagrees with them is literally hitler.
It’s just more of the same bullshit that reddit turned into. You aren’t allowed to spit facts, because a lot of those facts contradict the little narrative they have constructed in their head. Already the moderation on some of these instances is fucking disgusting. Posts that go against the grain just disappear. No warning, no ban, no notice - your shit is just gone because some moddy-boi that changes pronouns depending on the weather got their feelings hurt.
Having said all that, I’m not sure what we will really achieve here if it’s just going to be 4chan lite. Stick to your guns, refuse to censor and ban. Allow proper discourse and proper debate when the science seems fishy, but don’t just become caricatures of what they believe you to be.
From what I’ve seen today over at sh.itheads.justvomitculturewartalkingpoints I don’t want a bar of it any longer - but this place needs to grow in a principled fashion if it’s ever going to be a success.
There are already other spaces where you can post contrarian opinions. Let’s do more than that. Let’s play their dumb little game in reverse.
I don’t really like the 2nd bullet point at all. If someone is being removed, I think it’s important that you let them know.
