I just really hope this isn’t a preamble to becoming the new default theme, because I really dislike this. It reminds me of other social media services that I go out of my way to avoid.

I particularly dislike the infinitely scrolling dark pattern, but I also don’t like that it displays all content immediately, wasting bandwidth, making it difficult to see headlines, and more difficult to ignore previously seen content.

I love watching your cursor zoom around the window. Is that a feature of Neovide or something else that you have configured?

Practice that change super slow going from a G chord to a D chord. Four strums on each chord, taking as much time as you need to make them sound as good as you can. It will sound bad for a little while, but eventually, you will do it perfectly, and you will do it perfectly again and again and again until doing it wrong is more difficult than doing it well.

I’m currently reading “Don’t Make Me Think: Revised Edition” by Steve Krug. The book is primarily about website design, but anyone with half a brain could translate the design principles and main ideas into a game development context. I just finished Chapter 10(?) all about designing usability tests and how to get a feel for where the main issues are with your design.
After that, I’ve got “Design is Storytelling” by Ellen Lupton and “The Animator’s Survival Kit” by Richard Williams queued up.

I once met a guy in a guitar shop telling me about the “litter boxes” in the class room of a local high school. I was working as a substitute teacher at the time while I finished my master’s thesis. I told him that I work at that school regularly and could confirm that it was a facebook shitpost and not even remotely grounded in reality.

It sounds like the Rat might be more of what you are looking for. Blues can and does distort, but not THAT much. Try out a Rat, dial it back a little, then see what you think. Worst case scenario, you try stacking the TS and the Rat? Although, that may get untenable quickly.

I’ll also put the Fulltone OCD overdrive onto your radar. It has a very wide range and my buddy loves it with his deluxe reverb. It isn’t as classic or super well-known, but it isn’t super obscure either.

Ok, reading the description, it is may be trying to sound like a deluxe reverb or a blues junior.

If that is true, then a blues driver pairs with that amp style really well in my opinion. More grit than a typical tubescreamer, but not quite a full bore distortion pedal like a DS-1 or a Distortion+ (My personal favorite distortion).

Check out some samples online and see what you think. If you want something a little more like Black Keys, or Jimi Hendrix, then you may also want to consider fuzz pedals with some, relatively lower-ish, gain settings.

A mechanical metronome will help with a visual indicator, but this smells like a classic XY problem to me. Your issue isn’t that you need a visually distinctive metronome, it’s that you are rushing the beat and need to break that habit.

Sadly, a metronome can only get you halfway in that endeavor. The real fix will be to practice with other musicians who can call you out on it in real-time. It is embarrassing, it is time-consuming, and it isn’t fun, but it WILL break you of the habit and force you to play better. And make sure they call you out on it immediately. As in you do not get to continue the song once it is noticed, and you must start over like dying in a video game.

Not really, once Reddit closed off their API to all but the absolute highest of bidders, it broke a lot of functionality of a lot of smaller apps like this. You might still be able to find something to spruce up the CSS client side somewhere, but a lot of devs abandoned the ecosystem once Reddit, the company, made it clear in no uncertain terms that community support and 3rd party partnerships were unwelcome.

I was really active in that sub at the time. Fox or CNN or something contacted the moderators about an interview. The mods discussed it and decided to decline. IIRC, they later made a post about not accepting interviews until they felt they were more ready to present clear goals, and maybe pull someone from the community to be a “official” spokesperson.

Then a mod went rogue and did the now infamous Fox interview. That was bad, but recoverable. It was further shenanigans by the moderators in the immediate aftermath that caused the schism into work_reform. Before my exodus from reddit, I followed that community closely, but never got as involved. At the time, I remember thinking that the mods felt more reasonable than in antiwork, but that quickly changed too. Eventually they effectively became mirror subs.

Then RIF got shut down and someone told me about this lemmy federation where I could post about all the gay space communism and fringe technology I wanted. I think that I am happier now overall.
