Let me preface this by saying I believe in science. But it’s worth remembering that scientists are people. And science like this, while it may sound cool and promising, obviously carries massive irreversible risks, and that’s before we take the people into account. I don’t care how closely they monitor the experiments. I count these types of trials in the same vein as releasing genetically modified mosquitos into the wild to breed an infertile generation. Sounds like it could maybe work, but the risks and potential unforeseeable knock-on effects are not worth it.

There was public backlash for a reason. And while I’m not normally in favor of catering to a public that is mostly scientifically-illiterate, in some cases the gut reaction is the right one.

I was thinking, don’t I remember something about UN workers sexually assaulting a bunch of Haitians during their last peacekeeping mission? Yup, it’s right there in the article. Appalling.

The UN’s 2004-2017 failed peacekeeping mission was also marred by allegations of sexual assault by its troops and staffers. Furthermore, peacekeepers from Nepal were blamed for introducing cholera into Haiti’s largest river in October 2010, resulting in the death of over 10,000 Haitian people. Although the UN has acknowledged its role in the epidemic and the lack of sufficient effort to combat it, it has not explicitly admitted to introducing the disease.

Well said. I think it all comes down to having basic respect for people’s choices. We’re sexual animals, but we all have the right to express our sexuality as little or as much as we want.

People should be allowed to be both objectified if they want to be or not if they don’t want to be. This is true for everyone and can change day to day.

I love this. Just because someone welcomes objectification one day, doesn’t imply they want it the next day.

The way she spoke to multiple audiences in the same answer was masterful. She would start by addressing the camera and the American people about something substantive, then turn directly to Trump and bait him with something she knows he won’t be able to ignore, by looking straight at him and saying stuff like “military leaders who worked for you have told me that you are a disgrace.” So. Damn. Good. And he refused to make eye contact with her, which says a lot.

I’m not sure if people realize how hard it is to pull something like that off, especially to a person who leans on racist/misogynistic/violent rhetoric.
