Some of Reddit’s most popular communities have posted open letters to the company with a series of requests regarding many key issues at the heart of the recent protests on the platform. They want a response by June 29th.

I didn’t read anything in this thread, but I’d just like to give my opinion. I honestly don’t care. Make it affordable if you wish, but if Lemmy keeps alive and well, I’m good at where I am.

I also don’t see myself ever going back to reddit (especially since they undeleted all my posts…)

But look at twitter. Like it or not, these social media networks are foundational to the internet, if not the world. Having them in a degraded state is a severe negative impact.

In the case of reddit? Countless amounts of tech support are largely gone (and, admittedly, deleting posts doesn’t help with that)

Twitter? We have had issues understanding fact and truth with global events for years. But the Friday evening coup in russia not only speedran a military uprising: it speedran the reality we can expect where nobody knows what is going on and the current owners of the platform are actively pushing misinformation to benefit their political allies.

Maybe someday lemmy/mastodon can take the place of that. But that day is no time soon.
