Just awful.
Maybe cars of the future will be set up to either not allow a person to drive if the trip is less than a few km away, or send the driver a bill for a “short trip fee”.
If society don’t incentivize non-automobile travel, and strongly disincentivize short trips by car, we will never be able to solve:
- traffic
- air pollution
- pedestrian homicides
- unsafe streets for kids
- space wasted on roads/parking
- the high cost of infrastructure
- cost of living
Not to mention bad health due to sedentary lifestyles
For sure, the list can go on and on!
That will just make them drive to the Walmart one town over.
