I saw this a while back, so I coded up a really bad JavaScript page that I dumped a whole bunch of protips for the system we use, the campaign we’re playing, and then just some general tips and jokes that are system- and campaign-agnostic, and I run that page on OBS while I’m getting set up.
We play Pathfinder and Starfinder mostly, but some other systems as well, so I can switch which system we run tips for when I start it up; and I can switch the campaign, too.
The campaign-agnostic ones are stuff like
-
Having trouble with an encounter? Try reducing the enemy’s HP to 0 while keeping yours above 0.
-
It’s not “Getting the rules wrong.” It’s just temporary improvised homebrew.

Lesser-Used Magic Spells: Lamashtu’s Unholy Waters, Tasha’s Hideous Laughter, Frank’s Hot Sauce
Pathfinder 2e just did a remaster to pull all of the OGL stuff out of it, so I added a bunch of the stuff that got renamed to the PF2e tips section:
-
Spell Level➡️ Spell Rank -
Mephit➡️ Scamp -
Material Plane➡️ The Universe
And then for our campaign-specific stuff, it’s an opportunity to insert a little flavor or reminders that people might forget.
-
For the best deals on armor and weapons, come on down to Ivan the Armorer! “If you need a smith, just bellow for Ivan!”
-
Deep in the jungles of Castrovel is the mystical Temple of the Twelve, where you met a Lashunta woman named Ralkawi. She’s pretty grateful for that.
Some of the stuff ends up getting a laugh. Others are just good to remember.
Lesser-used spells… Frank’s Hot Sauce
Bah. I cast that shit on everything!
Mike’s Hard Lemonade is a good one, too.
You can’t just describe all that and not link the scripts
The de-OGL-ification is really something. Even my veteran group is oftentimes a bit unsure. Worst thing though – I started a group with one of my regular players and a group full of people who are completely new to TTRPG. The change dropped between me individually meeting up with them to build characters with and session one. The rogue still struggles because I constantly say flat-footed, even though off-guard fits so much better imo.
Unrelated: how is Starfinder? Especially compared to Pathfinder?
ngl, I look at it the same way I do FromSoft games. “It’s called what now? sorry, it was an Estus Flask in Dark Souls, that’s what it gets called forever.”

If you play D&D through Discord video group call, is it then a video-game?
Depends on if someone’s mom gets fucked.
…context?
It’s common in video games for people to claim they fucked your mom?
It was common in the 2000s and early 2010s for people in voice chats for games to claim they fucked your mom; usually people who were clearly teenagers.
Guess it was one of those things where you had to be there to get it
Oh no I was there, but I was also a bit confused about their comment. I didn’t make that link immediately and assumed there was some post/thread about moms getting fucked over video games
Now I’ve gotta find a way to implement something like this in my foundry server. That would be amazing!
Feels like that would be something to easily put into Foundry. I remember looking at plugins and addons and stuff and there was SO MUCH. A lil loading screen tip thing in the chat should be pretty manageable
I’m sure I can write something for it if I spend some time. I’d just have to brush up on my javascript
