I read the full trilogy years ago, not because I am religious it was just because I want to know what it is all about.

It’s not the religion, it’s the people who always try to misinterpret things in a way they get comfort with. And we all know what fucked up shit people did in the past in the name of all religions.
The bible for example got translated from hebrew to latin and created some funny misinterprets like “the camel through a needle eye” but that’s just some sidekicks. The koran is written in Arabic, some words can have 7 or more meanings. Reading a translation is always a leap of faith in the translator, because he/she decided the meaning.
