What do people on here think the going rate now-a-days is for the neighbours kid washing the car?
Inside and/or outside.
I would teach kids about the minimum wage, how to quote a job based on estimated time and overall cleanliness, and then get them to ask the fair and equitable going rate. Unionise those fuckers.
According to the Australian Unions website[1], employers in Australia are legally allowed to pay workers under 16 years old $8.55 per hour, which is 36.8% of the Australian minimum wage for legal adults. This means that the minimum wage for 15-year-olds is $8.55 per hour. The Fair Work Ombudsman[2] provides a tool to calculate minimum pay rates for juniors. The Forbes Advisor Australia[3] states that the current minimum wage in Australia is $21.38 per hour (before tax) as determined by Fair Work Australia. However, the minimum wage for young workers is different. According to Indeed.com[4], the minimum wage for workers under 16 years of age is 36.8% of the national minimum wage, which is $7.30 per hour. Mywage.com[5] also confirms that the minimum wage for trainees varies from A$287.90 – A$585.80 per week, depending on years of schooling. Finally, the Children’s Services Award 2010[6] provides the minimum amount that an employer can pay an educator based on their qualification and position while working in an early learning center.

Cheers Treevan, I might go along these lines. Apart from your last comment to unionise my neighbours’ kid. I don’t know them well enough to risk their ire, especially if theres a Murdoch backed backlash, i can imagine the headline now,
‘Neighbourhood kid brainwashed by Commie nutjob with a car to wash!’
They’d have a field day, i’d never be able to clean my car in peace again.
'Bout tree-fiddy.
The worst thing about neighbourhood or fundraiser car washes is people wearing belts or jeans with studs on them. Hell no you’ll scratch my car!
And how does the quality compare to the squeegee deros at the Canning highway freeway exit?
Good point about what they wear.
Look, the main point about the Squeegee dero’s is their Ninja-like ability to seize your windscreen before you realise whats happening, they are highly specialised and non-transferrable skills. Maybe he could use my car as practice for that? Expand his client list through surprise and shock tactics.
Depends on the quality of the work and how old the kids are. I’d say for under 10s they won’t be able to clean the top of the car but the fact that they are actually taking the initiative to make some money, I’d give them $5 each. Over 10s or taller kiddos $5 for a basic job, $10 if they look like they are taking pride in their work.
