How much, if anything, are you giving family members?
I wouldn’t tell anyone about it not even my parents. If a life situation comes up and my loved ones need money for a legit reason then I will sign the check on condition of no questions asked. otherwise its all mine (well what’s left of it after the feds and state take their cut). I don’t care how much you trust your family, friends, spouse, once they get a whiff of that money their latent self-interest and greed will kick in. Some of these people in the comments live in lah lah land, a life changing amount of money/assets will turn your best friends and closest family into self interested animals happy to rob/use you. No thanks, I’d rather not risk it.
I’m moving my family, and my best friend’s family into new houses on the same property and giving them a life where they don’t have to worry about food or shelter ever again.
I would also disappear; but into my own wing of the mansion where no one else is allowed entry.

Better watch out for Catwoman then.
She’s welcome as long as she lets me scratch her ears while she sits in my lap.
Do you think my (extended) family members will even know? Only the person doing my taxes would even have a clue. I’d play it cool and slowly disappear with my close family.
Zero.
First off, I’m creating an LLC to claim the winnings so that my name remains out of the papers.
Second, I’m not telling them. My family are the kind of idiots who would insist their god made sure I won, so that I can give it half of it to their church, and the other half to them.
Not “giving”, but setting up an LLC to “hire” them and provide health insurance.
Europeans: look what they need just to mimic a fraction of our power.
I’d give away about half and keep half.
Give?
Shit, they’re working for that dolla bill! My own damn mama gonna be rubbing my feet!
Legit though, I wouldn’t just dump cash on them. My family are idiots about money. I’d pay off their debt, make sure their houses were in good repair, and then kick the fuck back.
All of it. I would give every dime away. I would buy homes for as many people I know. I would seed the future that I want the people I care about to live in.
Now, I wouldn’t give every dime away. But I’d turn my little city into a cyclist’s haven and buy acres of land and set up a whole lot of tiny homes for the homeless. I’d also be looking at starting a business that can help sustain that lot over time since that is inevitably going to be very expensive.
- pay off my mortgage / debt
- pay off my family’s mortgages / debts
- a lump sum to each of my friends
- buy a house to give to each of my kids when they’re older
- fund a houses for homeless people build initiative
- fund an old people’s retirement care initiative
That’s it.
People sitting on huge piles of money like selfish old dragons are the reason that the world is in the state it is. Money only helps people when it is spent.
I agree, it feels like what I said but with more well thought steps 😅

Doesn’t this only work if the LLC is created before the purchase of the ticket? In addition, LLC docs are public record, you can look up the operators registered under an LLC

Interesting. I do think it’s bullshit that you can’t claim a ticket anonymously in a lot of states. I get having to provide info for tax purposes, but you shouldn’t be required to publicly announce your personal info to claim it

1/4 is a good number. It’s still a huge sum of money
I’d give my folks a couple million, extended family a few million total. money needs to be moved around and my family absolutely excels at spending lol.
yeah, id split it. I’d make sure to set myself up first however, but I dont need a huge house or $1,000,000 car or anything like that. Once I’m set, I’d give lots to family and friends, but I would set up a bird rescue center with the majority of it im sure
I would stash away a good amount for me and my immediate family and give the rest away to family and select charities.
I think I’d set up a foundation. I’d decide what the foundation would pay for (tuition, maybe small business loans up to $25K, I don’t know…) and then any relatives can apply to the foundation and leave me out of it.
