    I say we have right to work right now, the right to work somewhere the fuck else if you don’t like being in a union.

      People forget this side of the equation. I’ll premise this by saying that I am all for unions and collective bargaining, but, right to work goes both ways. They can let you go for pretty much any reason that doesn’t violate state or federal laws and you have the right to quit whenever you want.

      Most large companies like Walmart, Target, larger grocery chains like Harris Teeter, foodlion, etc won’t just let you go at the drop of a hat, it usually takes them up to a year to get rid of someone if they want you gone. Why? Because they want to minimize the chances of being sued. This also applies to anyone who may have a bad week or so and have some days you’re late to work, not able to keep up pace, etc. This also gives you time to leverage your current job to get a better one. Never quit one job until you have another ready to start.

        I’m confused about what point you’re trying to make. How does being in a union affect your ability to quit? Unless there’s a specific clause in your contract there’s no requirement to give notice, it’s just common courtesy.
