Right wing media works very hard to spread the idea that “freedom” is the ability to take from the commons to benefit oneself at the expense of everyone else with no repercussions. While any attempt to thwart someone from doing so is repression. Support for “right-to-work” is an expression of that.

Right to work cuts both ways. If more people would take advantage of it, we would see companies offering higher pay to get people to work. As it is, so many people are afraid if being out of work for even a short time that they don’t flex the power they do have. I’ve told bosses to fuck off (in nicer words) when they try to get me in on a day off. When I worked target 2 of us straight up told our etl that we were leaving after 12 hours because if we didn’t, we wouldn’t be there that night for the next truck. Make yourself someone they rely on and it gives you a lot of freedom and leeway when you need it.

The above said. I’m all for unions and collective bargaining but we have more power than some realize.

I’m saddened by the state of affairs across the globe. Every time I bring up taking control of your own destiny I get argued with and downvoted. While you fight for and build up a union or grow a collective to bargain, use the laws and power you do have to make life better for yourself and others.

“Right-to-work” is an anti-union propaganda term, like how anti-abortion people call themselves “pro-life”. We shouldn’t dignify it by repeating it (though I understand it’s in the headline and am not blaming you OP)

I say we have right to work right now, the right to work somewhere the fuck else if you don’t like being in a union.

People forget this side of the equation. I’ll premise this by saying that I am all for unions and collective bargaining, but, right to work goes both ways. They can let you go for pretty much any reason that doesn’t violate state or federal laws and you have the right to quit whenever you want.

Most large companies like Walmart, Target, larger grocery chains like Harris Teeter, foodlion, etc won’t just let you go at the drop of a hat, it usually takes them up to a year to get rid of someone if they want you gone. Why? Because they want to minimize the chances of being sued. This also applies to anyone who may have a bad week or so and have some days you’re late to work, not able to keep up pace, etc. This also gives you time to leverage your current job to get a better one. Never quit one job until you have another ready to start.

I’m confused about what point you’re trying to make. How does being in a union affect your ability to quit? Unless there’s a specific clause in your contract there’s no requirement to give notice, it’s just common courtesy.
