    Frankly Gourmand

    • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Papa Eld with Declaration Grooming B3 knot
    • Razor: Merkur Futur
    • Blade: Derby Premium
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann Frankly My Pear
    • Aftershave: Barrister and Mann Frankly My Pear
    • Fragrance: Imaginary Authors Saint Julep
    • Talc: Pinaud Clubman Finest Powder

This shave was part of getting ready for my wife’s birthday party. It’s also the first time in a while that I spritzed on some Saint Julep and then actually drank a Mint Julep.

The Futur makes me chuckle. This bulbous monstrosity from the eighties makes as much sense as the contemporary shoulder pads, but with a blade gap large enough to qualify as blade chasm and the weakest blade clamp in wetshavedon, this chattering SOB rewards paying attention with very close shaves.

    Jan. 27, 2024

    • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic
    • Razor: EldrormR Industries MM24
    • Blade: GEM Stainless [4]
    • Lather: Noble Otter - Thè Noir Et Vanille - Soap
    • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Thè Noir Et Vanille - Balm

Good shave. This tub is on its last couple shaves. It will be a sad one to finish as it was one of the first sets I bought. I do still very much enjoy the scent, not a big fan of the balm but at that time it was hard to find the splash.

    • Brush: Maggard 24mm Synthetic
    • Razor: Blackland Era - Level 3 SB
    • Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (3)
    • Lather: Central Texas Soaps - Cherry Pipe - Soap
    • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Hamami - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Nivea Sensitive Balm
    • Fragrance: Brut - EdT

Great shave. Pushed the water to crazy levels and the soap took it like a champ. Central Texas advertised their shave soap as being thirsty, and I always appreciated that. Even Barrister & Mann, whose soaps I’ve always found extra thirsty, never mentions it in their ad copy.

In actuality, the time difference is small between lathering a thirsty soap and one that isn’t thirsty, but experience is required. However, I think some folks believe that a thirsty soap will take a long time to lather. Kudos to Central Texas Soaps for providing information to help their customers achieve a good lather from their product.
