Saturday, January 6, 2024: Experiencing Frenchness

I had passed this afternoon the TI on the stones (with a progression from 6k to 10k, and finishing at 12k). For an additional French touch, I used Narcisse. The shave went great, and the blade is very confortable. Unfortunately, this was also the first time since a very long period that I nicked my ear. But overall, this was a very nice shave.

    Have a good night!

    January 6, 2024

    • Brush: Summer Break Soaps w/Maggard 28mm Silvertip Badger
    • Razor: Gillette Red Tip Super Speed
    • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (3)
    • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Varen - Soap
    • Post Shave: Chatillon Lux - Sni Mato - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Nivea Sensitive Balm
    • Fragrance: Barrister & Mann - Lavenille - EdP

This tub of Varen only has 2 (maybe 3) shaves left in it. It’ll be missed.

Sni smelled amazing today. I applied it my wet face, and wiped off the excess on account of it being stronk. It did the trick. When toned down, it’s a really nice scent.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

“'Cause every girl crazy 'bout a Sharp Dressed Man”, That Little Ol’ Band from Texas.

To me, this is the most cleverly named fragrance in Stirling’s “Man” series. I wouldn’t change a thing on this one. I’m finishing out my Creed series today. These scents are just so well done with balance and strength. Very impressive.

Very enjoyable shave today. I really appreciate the design, material, and workmanship on this razor and brush. Love the heft, also.

    You Talcin’ To Me?

    • Brush: Zenith 506U N (50/50 horse mane/tail)
    • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 72-V (13/16", quarter hollow or near wedge, stainless steel)
    • Lather: Noble Otter Rawr
    • Aftershave: Declaration Grooming Bangarang
    • Fragrance: Sir Irisch Moos
    • Talc: Pinaud Clubman Finest Powder

Bangarang and Rawr have a similar inspiration: a feeling of nostalgia for a carefree childhood. This manifests quite differently in the two scents though, with clean, fresh, vernal rawr and sweet, slightly dirty Bangarang. I used to think that the two fragrances don’t pair well together, but when I sniffed them together a few days ago, setting up some SOTD combos, I realised that I’ve changed my mind. The Moos recalls a similar green and a bit floral theme from Rawr. This is a good combo that I’ve had lying around my den for a long time, but never tried.

In related news, the #Talcening continues, this time without need for the bomb squad. Only small powder puffs escaped and I didn’t end up looking like Marie Antoinette. #progress
