The Fietselfstedentocht (Bicycle Eleven Cities Tour) is an annual organized bicycle tour over 240km, through all cities in Frysland (Netherlands), with 15000 participants.

It is also one of the cultural highlights of the year in all participating towns - which means that as a participant you ride all day on closed roads with thousands of other cyclists through a landscape of meadows, cows, dikes and windmills, and in every town you pass through there is a folk festival and spectators cheering you on.

Because of the long route, the event is very road bike-heavy - it’s easier to ride a course like this in a slipstream and lycra.
But there are also riders on Dutch bikes and tandems, sometimes with wild disguises. pictured: My bike, a converted MTB from the 90s.
