I admit, living in a medieval city is a joy ( I lived in Brussels for ten years,) , feels very much like home. Living in a 400 year old house is a bit difficult, they are cold, draughty and the plumbing and electricity is iffy
I grew up in England for a stretch. The local pub down the end of the road had been there since 1480. Still had the same wooden beams at head height throughout.

I actually was extremely underwhelmed by Brussels. I loved Bruge though.
Bruge is nice for tourists . Brussels is nice to live in… 😊 I found Ghent and Tongeren interesting.
