I just finished After Io by Elliott Wink, and am now on book two of the far light trilogy, District Five ¹. It’s hard-ish scifi (some handwaving for artificial gravity) where we only expanded through our solar system, no FTL or anything, 200 years in our future. Mars was colonized but only barely, inner-solar travel seems common enough.
Book 1 is a cool space mystery which uses a cold opener that’s from almost the end of the first book.
Bryn Michaels is a pilot on the spaceship Persika and she has just killed her captain.
Interesting characters, well written, and on KU if you are on that :) Pretty short with about 3 hours per book.
¹ Huh. ?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=VE01KPlptE all of those seem to be mandatory for the link to work. Just opening the page from the author page (which lacks the query string) gives a 404. Weird bug. I was able to remove only one part &rank=11 without breaking the link.
I hope SciFi is okay? ;)
