I’ve heard it explained that “hey” used to be more of an urgent way to get someone’s attention, rather than a casual “hello” like it is now, so it sounded rude to some older folks.

    What’s the point? You’ll just twist it to fit your narrative. I can guarantee you you have traits that people aren’t very fond of either. But by all means, ride that soapbox to the finish line.
