I use Linux and it really sucks. It wouldn’t cost them much at all to support Linux, but instead I have to resort to unofficial workarounds. I’m pretty certain they’ll force me to use Jagex Account fairly soon, unfortunately
That’s always been the case on Linux. I switched over, and AFAIK it “just works” when installed through lutris. All my accounts, available through one single click, with runelite. What’s not to like?

I folded because the 1 click login is so good and I don’t use linux so no bother there
Not being able to use HDOS has been annoying but it seems it’s being added so no complaints from me now
You can just use the launcher without a jagex acc for now
