There’s also a bunch of repetition of the lesson that god is a fucking asshole in the Moses myth.

First off, god was the one who hardened the pharaoh’s heart. So that god could then kill all the firstborn of Egypt. All to punish the Egyptians for holding slaves, which I’m okay with if you kill the slave masters, not their kids.

Also, god sort of sentenced the Jews to be slaves? I think the slaves were the tribe of Ham, whose lineage was sentenced to eternal slavery by Noah, which was a dick move, but then he was raped by his own son when he was passed out drunk.

Anyway, so Moses then does a bunch of shit and parts of the story say that god is a whiny little removed who throws tantrums. Moses comes down off the mountain, and he throws a tantrum.

Then at the end of the story old man Moses hit the rock twice to break it open to release water, and in hitting the rock twice had doubted god? Then he’s sentenced to never see the promised land that other people already live in, the Jews then decide to massacre the previous owners…

    There’s a modern parallel…

Religion says “we get this land” and anyone else who just so happened to live there gets dead. It’s a sin that every Abrahamic religion is guilty of at one time or another.

Well told. And this is why the Bible, and especially the Moses story here, sounds more like so very human ramblings rather than “told by God” or something. Even Lovecraft could write such an ancient story better
