You’ve read it right, flairs are finally here.
No longer will you have to endure cringe and based opinions alike, in a vast and boring sea of flairlessness. No longer will you have to actually read someone’s take, to be able to judge them. I bring you… THE FUNNI COLOURS.
@Atalocke@lemmy.basedcount.com and I have been hard at work on this feature for the last couple months and we’re so glad to finally see it live. There is, however, an asterisk.
For the time being, only users from our instance (lemmy.basedcount.com) can see and set user flairs, as this feature doesn’t propagate through federation. As such, users from other instances (less than half of the !pcm@lemmy.basedcount.com userbase) won’t notice any changes.
My next project will be bringing support for user flairs to other instances through a browser extension, but that’ll probably take me some time.
Of course, if you want the full PCM experience™️ you can always open an account here (wink wink).
In the meantime, enjoy your funni colours, pcm. Stay based and flair the fuck up.
Another option may be a post where users on other instances may be able to flair up with a command. For example, !flairup libleft
This should theoretically work with all ActivityPub instances
Yeah but the problem would be that they wouldn’t be able to view those flairs. The only reason you (and other lemmy.basedcount.com users) can see them is because our instance is using a modified version of the frontend built by yours truly.
The regular frontend that everyone else runs has no idea of what a “flair” is.
So at that point it’s probably easier to put both the flair picker and the code to “view” everyone’s flairs in a single browser extension, that people who want to see flairs can download.
