I have a surgery which will leave me unable to bike. I wasn’t yet told how much, they will tell me after the surgery. I had major zoomies today and I’m sad I won’t be able to zoomie for some time. I cycle everywhere, including to work, and I don’t work remotely, so I hope I get back to health in no time. I’m extending my empathy to other people who may not experience the zoomies, especially after learning one of my colleagues is not allowed to bike again after a surgery he’s had. :c

What are your alternatives for the day to day? Is transit an option where you live, or are you going to be relegated to driving a car?
Maybe an e-scooter could be an option, while not as fun as biking, they still hit the spot a little bit for me.
I’m poor, I could never afford a car or a scooter, especially not on a whim. There’s transit, but due to traffic it can take over an hour vs 20 minutes by bike. Sadly no metro. Currently I blindly hope to recover extremely fast. Surgery’s tomorrow morning. Good night. ^ ^

Maybe a kick scooter might be different enough of a movement to get you through until you can bike again. They are much cheaper than an e-scooter.
shocks you send through your body are violent compared to riding a bike. If cycling is advised against, there’s no way you can use a kick scooter
Maybe on the little razor scooters but they are pretty cushioned if you get a bike wheel scooter like a yedoo 2016.
scooter can be cushioned but the road or the pavement stays what it is. The problem is the kick, not the stand.

You are correct that the kick is where the shock is. I think with proper technique like these videos demonstrate the shock is minimized and still less damage than pedalling when trying to heal if the surgery is on the ankle. Especially if you stick to kicking more one the non healing foot.
i just got back on my bike after 5 weeks. Towards the end, which at the time i wasn’t sure if it was the end or not, i was so fed up with walking i remember screaming one night. Surgeon gave me the green light for cycling and it was such a pleasure to be back on a bike. It still is

Yep, I just had bottom surgery and can’t bike for at least 3 months. Over the winter so not too bad.

Thank you, now I need to figure out a way to keep helping my daughter ride her bike while still limiting movement. Maybe an electric scooter.
