Finally off Virgin Media and their bloody price rises.

Yeah, I am due a contact renewal and I am looking forward to speaking to disconnections:

“We can offer you this great deal that matches that offer.”

“Yeah, but they aren’t going to keep changing at irregular intervals.”

They changed their terms and conditions in September. That should allow you to cancel your connection earlier. Check your email, you may have had something from them.

Oh I don’t think it’s any coincidence that they’ve started sending me “if you rent with us now we’ll give you this great deal!” emails. I’m just trying to see if I can get cash up front like last time (£100) and then see how quickly I can bin them off.

When I first signed up with Zen, they gave a lifetime price guarantee. They don’t offer it any more (and the prices have actually fallen since!), but it was definitely a big breath of fresh air after virgin “press 1 to only increase the bill by £2.50 instead of £5” media.

    Hmm, that’s interesting.

I’m currently with Vodafone and they’re coming to install fibre to my home in a couple of days… for free! However, they’re only putting me on the 100mbps plan.

I’m out of contract with them so I think I’ll switch once the install is done.

Even at 100Mb/s, FTTP is a game changer. It’s not just the bandwidth but the immediacy from the low latency that makes FTTP worthwhile IMHO.

        The consistency, too.

When mine first installed, it was 3ms or so, it’s up to 8ms now the network is more loaded, but it’s absolutely rock solid.

I think there is such a thing as “threshold” bandwidth, for us that was about 15mbits up and 100 down, and it means that no matter what silly stuff people are doing (other than saturating the entire pipe), things just keep on trundling.
