Just saying: yes, this is bullshit, but I help shake the feeling that this is what comes from showing corporate America that we, as a people, don’t give enough fucks for the latter, so they can more easily get away with this… for even more profit.
In essence, it’s symptomatic of the whole “As long as it’s not me” mentality.
They’ll keep getting worse, so long as we never raze Wall Street to the ground as we should.
Don’t worry though, this country could legalize and mandate productivity shock collars on everyone with less than a million in net worth, and we wouldn’t do shit. We’re every bit as complacent, flaccid, feckless, cowardly, and subservient as our owners believe us to be. Their propaganda infecting everything from education to media for decades has seen to that. We trust the invisible hand of the free market round here, boy I tell you what.
We don’t want to disturb the quarterly earnings of our glorious job creators or our beloved economy🌈, after all. They’ll start pissing prosperity on us any day now! ZAP so this is freedom…

It sounds like it’s filled with short term renters trying to get startups going. They need a place to shower and sleep while going to a lot of meetings in SF.
I don’t see an issue with that.

Well in your case, you were in the military, where people are expected to live in austere conditions.
In this case, however, you have civilians who have to live in these undesirable conditions because the cost of living has gone out of control.
If these pods catch on, this will become the new norm. In other words, unless affordable living is properly addressed, our living conditions will continue to deteriorate.
Many people unfortunately have a slave mentality. They don’t fight for themselves and resign themselves to the increasingly deteriorating conditions we are all living in (provided you’re not a trillionaire, billionaire, or a millionaire).
What’s worse is that many of these people will downvote you if you stand up for yourself and demand better conditions. No wonder banksters, corporations, and the ruling class have hollowed out the middle and working classes so easily.
Amongst the mice fighting for the few crumbs that fall from the table were the fatcats divide the cake, a few will, upon finding a slightly larger crumb, proudly raise it for all to see and shout: “See?! The System works!”
Right now, it might be for people who want to create startups but eventually, if this catches on, it might become the new norm because we are caught in a cycle of increasingly deteriorating living conditions.
As for dorms, yes, while they are small they are still more spacious than these $800/month pods that are around 6 ft long, 3 ft wide, and 4 ft tall.
I did read the article and a person who utilizes these pods spends at least 6-8 hours in them per day, so that comes out to around 42 hours per week or 91 days per year. So people are spending at least 3 months of their lives inside a pod that is smaller than a jail cell.
My life hasn’t been easy by any means (I have an autoimmune condition) but I refuse to let banksters, corps, and people with low expectations drive down our living conditions any further. Instead of opting for pods that are smaller than jail cells, we should demand better housing that’s affordable, otherwise, what do we pay all these taxes for?
I don’t feel good about this at all. People should not be living in conditions like this.

It’s a month to month contract. That seems to back your idea of startups.
This seems slightly more private than dorm room or bunk conditions, and we are ok having people live in those kinds of conditions.
