I don’t really know how federation works. I assumed that a new instance would automatically be federated and then the crybabies would run away. I don’t understand the sudden influx.

Of course they would be butthurt.

    you assume correctly, the reddit debacle sent a bunch of redditors to the fediverse and they opened new instances which federate with us, or people signed up for the instance, so you have lots of angry and confused redditors wondering why conservatives exist on the fediverse, and predictably a few new instances have defederated from us over it
